About One Direction

One Direction are a British-Irish boy band consisting of members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. They signed to Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records after being formed and placing third in the seventh series of The X Factor in 2010. They later signed in North America to Columbia Records.

In November 2011, One Direction released their debut album Up All Night, which became the fastest-selling debut album in the UK of 2011. In 2012, it debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, making One Direction the first UK group in U.S. chart history to debut at number one with their first album. Up All Night spawned the Official UK Singles Chart top ten singles — "What Makes You Beautiful", "Gotta Be You", and "One Thing". In 2012, "What Makes You Beautiful" won the BRIT Award for Best British Single. One Direction is supporting the album with their Up All Night Tour. They have began recording their second studio album, due for release in late 2012. One Direction's world tour is set for 2013, with tickets grossing $15.7 million for their Australian and New Zealand dates.

One Direction have been described as sparking a resurgence in the boy band concept, and of forming part of a new "British Invasion" in the United States. As of June 2012, according to Nick Gatfield, the chairman and chief esecutive of Sony Music Entertainment UK, One Direction represent a $50 million business empire. Their work has earned them awards and nominations. One Direction have supported various charities and foundations, and have commercial endorsements with Pokémon, Nokia, HarperCollins and Hasbro. Harry Styles

Harry Edward Styles was born on February 1st 1994 and is from Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, UK. Before he was in One Direction he was in a band and was the lead singer called White Eskimo. His group contained himself, lead guitarist Haydn Morris, bass guitarist Nick Clough and drummer Will Sweeny. He auditioned to Xfactor by himself singing “Isn’t She Beautiful” by Stevie Wonder. The judges worrying he wouldn't make it far in the competition. He sang “Stop Crying Your Heart Out” by Oasis before they decided he would work better in a group, putting him into One Direction.
 

Liam Payne

 

Liam Payne was born on August 29, 1983. He is 18 years old. His home town is Wolverhampton. He likes all three of the Toy Story movies. His celebrity crush is Leona Lewis, and his man crush is Michael McIntyre. Just in case you didn’t know, he only has one kidney. Things he likes in girls are knee socks, PDAs, giggling, squealing and tattoos. Things he doesn’t like are burping, farting, swearing, fake tans and lots of jewelery.

Niall Horan

Niall Horan was born on September 13, 1993 in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. He went to Colaiste Mhuire, Mullingar, a boy’s CBS secondary school. In a recent interview he said that the best thing about being in One Direction is that they all get along very well.

Zayn Malik 

Zayn Malik was born on January 12, 1993 in Bradford UK. He went to Tong High School before he decided to try out for the X Factor. When he first auditioned it wasn’t broadcasted on the air. During the boot camp on the X Factor Malik found out that he had to dance and he risked elimination to stay backstage. Soon Simon Cowell noticed that he wasn’t there and then convinced him to perform. 

Louis Tomlinson

Louis William Tomlinson was born on December 24, 1991. Turning 20 this year. He’s the oldest in the band. Louis  was born in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. He attended Hall Cross School, and used to attend The Hayfield School. When Louis auditioned for X factor he sung “hey there Delilah” by the plain white tees.
